Valentine’s Day History, Significance and Celebration

Valentine’s Day – February, the love season is dedicated to all those who are head-over-heels in love. This romantic month of the year marks the celebration of Valentine’s Day when love is in the air and kindling everybody’s heart for their true love.

Valentine’s Day History

The idea of celebrating love on St. Valentine’s Day is said to have originated during the Medieval Period, which further became prevalent by the 15th century. Sending little love notes along with flowers, chocolates, and candies to one’s beloved was a popular trend during this era. These handwritten love notes, known as ‘valentines’, were symbolized as a token of love.

It has its origin in Roman paganism – in the ancient festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration on February 15. However, the roots of Valentine’s Day are also said to lie beyond Lupercalia and are shrouded in various fanciful myths.
