Who is Maa Skandamata?
The fifth form of Navdurga is Maa Kushmanda. She holds her son, “Skand”, a many-headed baby in her lap.
Maa Skandamata has 3 eyes and 4 hands. Two hands hold lotuses while the other 2 hands display defending and granting gestures. A crescent moon of Lord Shiva can also be found on her forehead.
She sits on the lotus flower and because of that Skandamata is also known as Goddess Padmasana. Red-coloured flowers are her favourite.
Goddess Skandamata rides a ferocious lion. Navratri’s 5th night is worshipping Maa Skandamata.
Significance of the 5th Day of Navratri
Navratri’s fifth day is worshipped for the purpose of Kundalini Jagaran. In order to penetrate this cycle, the seeker must worship Skanda Mata by the sadhana of the pure chakra.
It’s said that by the mercy of Maa “Skandmata”, even the idiot becomes an ocean of knowledge such as “Kalidas”.

As we know that the elder son of Shiva and Goddess Parvati is Kartikeya. He was the great and intelligent. When Goddess Parvati became the mother of Kartikeya (Skanda), she came to be known as Skandamata. She is also known as Padmasana or Skanda Devi
